Customer Reviews for the A124WB.

From: Frank Buckley KF5ETN
I just got my Tech Ticket & put up the A124WB. @ 28 feet high it works really well for me. I am working four repeaters without moving the Beam. The furtherest is 65 Miles. Kenwood 271A on Power Supply with Stock Mike. Yes, I am studying for my General. Have a Great Day.

I bought one of these years ago and put it up on our house rooftop under the existing TV antenna on the existing tripod mount, in West Michigan, above Grand Rapids. Installing, I placed it on a wooden kitchen chair in the back yard and pointed it straight up, adjusting SWR gamma rod with a long remote cable from sensor to meter. Stand back from the antenna to test. Was able, with sensor(and me) separated by 20 feet to get SWR down to 1:1, or very close to it, adjusting in small increments. Put it up, vertically polarized, pointed SW. Later, on one Holland Repeater Group Session (30 miles SW), because of an opening, could read a station checking in from SW of Milwaukee across Lake Michigan. He was 145 miles away, and I could read him on the input, and he could read me on the input. For weathering I sprayed antenna with Krylon clear after all adjustments were complete.

This may be a small antenna, but I actually worked K5GW via Moonbounce (EME) using a single A124WB and an 800 Watt amplifier. The antenna was taped to a wooden rake handle and clamped onto my Black & Decker Workmate.

Oh, and the contact was made on CW, not WSJT or some other sophisticated digital decoding system. We completed the contact in about four minutes with no repeats required of any of the usual "OOO" and "RO RO RO" and "RRR" messages.

I have heard a number of other EME stations on this beam on CW, and have worked Hawaii from my home in California on a number of occasions.

If this antenna is good enough to work someone over a half-million-mile path, anything else closer is a piece of cake.
